Dehydrating Kale Chips, BBQ Chips, Crackers, and Desserts!

I have so much trouble with processed food, so I've resorted to making alot of my food from scratch. Recently, I received some money for a painting, so I bought an Excalibur dehydrator. When my dehydrator came in the mail, it felt like Christmas morning!!

Since receiving my dehydrator, I've been dehydrating up a storm! Here are some of my concoctions-

I was really excited to dehydrate kale chips, and I must say, these "chips" turned out great!

In the food processor, I blended about a cup of cashews, 2 TB Apple cider vinegar, 2 TB lemon juice, 1 TB nutritional yeast, 2 cloves garlic, and 1 red bell pepper.

After blending, I poured the mixture over the kale chips and mixed really well. Before pouring mixture over the kale, I took the greens off of their spines.

This is such a fun and tasty snack!:)

I ordered the "Krazy Kracker" lady's recipe book and tried out this recipe for dehydrated BBQ chips. It has taken me several tries, and I have yet to perfect this recipe.

After blending ingredients, I poured mixture onto paraflex sheets for dehydrating.

I feel very close to having this recipe perfected, but each "failed" attempt just results in a tasty cracker, so you really can't go wrong with this recipe!

One day, I didn't have many gluten free options for lunch (very rare occasion considering I plan out my weekly menu carefully), so I came up with this very random lunch!

I took some chicken I deboned and mixed apples and mayonaise to make chicken salad. Then, I found a piece of leftover gluten free walrus bread to put chicken salad over it. I also whipped up some homemade hummus, and used my dehydrated crackers for dipping, and then I munched on leftover kale chips! Very random indeed!

Homemade hummus with dehydrated flax crackers.

I didn't have all of the ingredients for my hummus, so I just worked with what I had, and it tasted great!

1 can garbanzo beans, drained, and rinsed.

Put beans in food processor and add 1 tsp minced garlic, 3 TB lemon juice, 3 1/2 TB olive oil, 1 1/2 tsp chopped basil, salt and pepper to taste.

Here are the other indgredients I didn't have that day- 1 tsp cilantro and some tahini. I have yet to try tahini in hummus, but it seems to be a common ingredient in hummus, but I'm not sure if it's gluten free.

For the flax crackers, I just threw a couple carrots, garlic powder, salt, chili powder, and water in the blender. Then I folded in 3/4 cup of soaked flax seeds, and dehydrated for 10 hours at 105 degrees F. It's very easy to make up a cracker recipe off the top of your head. One time, I blended carrots, apples, water, spices, salt, and chia seeds, and dehydrated the liquid, and out came a bunch of crackers for dipping!

Here is a little dessert I dehydrated. It's not the same as Betty Crocker brownies, but it's not so bad.

2 cups shredded coconut

2 Majool Dates (soaked for 10 min)

3 TB raw honey

1 TB carob powder

1 tsp vanilla

*Blend well in food processor, pack into 3/4 inch squars (add more honey if it doesn't stick well), and dehydrate for 6-8 hours on 105 degrees F.

Can't wait to see what else I can dehydrate. The possibilities are endless!!:)
