Well, I must admit, the eraser shaving collection didn't last long (once spilled, it was a mess to clean up!), and I haven't been able to eat at McDonald's in years so that puts a damper on collecting happy meals, plus, I'm far too old for those collections!:) Currently, my key chain collection remains the most awesome collection ever!!:) I collected keychains for about 8 years, and throughout those years, I aspired to make it into the Guiness Book of World Records, but alas, a man with over 25,000 keychains beat me to the punch!! All I needed was about 24,851 more key chains than him...
Lately, I've really missed having a collection. There's just nothing like the feeling you get when you find an object that is begging to be apart of your collection. Something in me says, I HAVE to have you!! You belong to my collection and no one else's! Okay, so maybe I'm exagerating, but not really. I equate being a collector to that of a treasure hunter! You are on this search, high and low, for the missing treasure to your trove, and when you happen upon it, it's really exciting! Not as exciting as finding a treasure chest full of millions of dollars worth of gold, so I guess it's second best, but still, so much fun!
So, I recently happened upon a new collection! YAY! This new collection started with a love for three things; miniatures (I have a questionably irrational fascination with miniatures!), tea cups (nothing like a dainty cup of chamomile tea), and antiques.
My grandmother and I enjoy antique shopping together, and it's something we've been doing since I was a kid. When I was about 6 years old, she took me to an antique shop where I saw a giant bean bag cow for $1.00, and I begged her to buy it for me. Much to my parents dismay, Moo Moo (that's what I named the cow) became a part of our lives for the next several years before our little, but mostly monstrous, yorkie dog destroyed poor Moo Moo.
Anyway, my grandmother took me antique shopping the other day, and that's where a new collection joyously entered into my life! Minature tea cups! It combines my love for antiques, tea cups, and minatures. You can't go wrong with a collection like that, unless of course they fall and shatter...but I'm hoping for the best!:)
Such pretty detail.
Recently, I've taken on the rather daunting task of helping my grandmother go through boxes upon boxes upon boxes of her antiques/collections, organizing, labeling, grouping them according to catagory, and placing them back in their proper boxes. Needless to say, this task is going to take longer than I had imagined, but if anyone can do it, I definitely can, for I love antiques and organizing!
I also love this precious time with my grandmother and hearing about each story behind her cherished belongings. I must say, while organizing and labeling her stuff, I wrote my name down on paper and taped it to a few of her antiques that I love;)
One day, I hope to decorate my home with several nice pieces of antique art, furniture, or trinkets that have meaning behind them, instead of getting a "Room's to Go" (no offense to my parents!) set to display in my home:)
Don't get me wrong, I don't want my home looking like you've walked into your local antique shop (although homes like that are very interesting), but rather, I want a few well made, interesting, conversational pieces that have historical or family meaning behind them.
